If we disabled the stock SM filtering plugin is they an alternative
we could use with SM?

Don't use the Filters plugin if you have any other alternative. Server-side filtering at delivery time will always be faster than doing it
in PHP at login. If you use Cyrus IMAPd, use SIEVE. There's even a
SquirrelMail plugin to set up SIEVE rules, and damn, does it ever work
nicely.

Failing that, you could use the server side filters plugin, which (I
believe) uses procmail and ftp. I personally use Cyrus and SIEVE, and
love it.

The server side filter plugin works with *both* procmail and maildrop and currently accesses filter files with a SUID binary, but the previous version uses FTP, which I hope to re-integrate back in in the future.
