Please respond *on-list*, thanks.
Hisome days ago i've send a post in order to found people that resolved the
In the fixing process i've pointed out that the "bug" was a string of exactly 8
bytes ( all are LF's ) send over the download channel by the "head" command.
These bytes shifts the rest of downloaded file and after receive it seems
unreadable or "scrambled".
At moment, i don't know the "why" of this strange behaviour ( maybe there are
some newlines in code that dumping in download channel ... ) but patched this behaviuor with a little old trick and now download function completely.
Extra newlines can make their way into your attachments if you have any files (especially plugin config files) with any extra characters outside of the initial "<?php" and last "?>" tags. You can see if it's one of your plugins by simply deactivating all of them and testing.
To avoid this possibility i write this patch .... so code is more predictable also if there are some extra bytes that can come out from another section of code, also i retain that the problem is not tightly connected with the use of plugins.
On the other side, i think that a very good program as SM must not be prone to this type of "proximity errors"
Then why don't you share your patch? How can you guarantee that you are only stripping off the correct number of newlines? How do you take that unpredictability and make it somehow predictable? That is, how do you know how many there will be and that those will be the only kinds of extra characters? Furthermore, are you sure that that is the problem in the first place? Maybe there is a problem in the IMAP server or elsewhere in the SM code that should be fixed instead of adding a patch on top of the mess.
