SM needs very little in terms of system resources. However, your biggest hit will probably be on the IMAP server. If you have closer to 10,000 users, depending on how busy they are, you can keep them all on one decently fast machine, but much over that and you want to start planning a better architecture. If you run something like SpamAssassin, also be aware that it is an even bigger hog than IMAP of both memory and CPU. There have been a few threads on the mailing lists in the past (one only about a month ago) where people gave recommendations for large systems.
