Did you try to search the FAQ at <http://www.squirrelmail.org/>? Here are some searches that I think might help you. There's also plenty of reading at <http://gmane.org/find.php?list=squirrelmail>. Since you don't mention "server side sorting" I suggest you try that setting first. It's in the FAQ and in the archives.
