Primarily for aesthetics. It's like the option in file browsers that
display only the directory name in the title bar but not the full path. As
a geek I prefer to see the full path. But for my webmail I think I prefer a
"simpler" URL (not that /foo/src/webmail.php or /src/webmail.php isn't
already pretty simple, but I hope I'm explaining myself well.)
There's also the directory name itself. 'src' is too "clinical" (if I can
borrow that term) compared to say 'sqm' or 'web'. You wouldn't want, for
example, a web site to be www.domain.com/htdocs/, and sites that do prefer
/something/ go with something like /home/ (I just found www.softimage.com as
an example. Don't worry, it's SFW.)
I've used a lot of webmail apps as an admin, but not so much as a user, so I
don't really know how often people pay attention to the URL (I mean, look at
Gmail.) This is just how I feel.
I like Sven's suggestion to use frames, so maybe I'll just do that. :)
Btw, thankyou for Squirrelmail.
