You are all right. When we contacted sendmail they said it is a 'bug'.
Obviously the search works with their web client. The default locale in
their web client are US-ascii, Western-european and Japanese.
SM is our default web client because it is rich in features than any web
client we have come across. I sincerely thank the SM team for that.
SM search feature is the only thing not working because of the sendmail bug.
