We use (eg) both .com.au and .com domains so that customers can use the one that feels more natural. While it won't cause any real problems if they get diverted to a different domain, I would prefer if they could stay with the domain they logged in to. How about a preference for setting either/both the domain name and/or the port number? But it doesn't really matter what you choose, I appreciate your efforts in finding and implementing a solution.
