I will assume you are using Sendmail.. If you have just performed an update to your Sendmail MTA there is an entry in the config file sendmail.cf that will by default not permit any mail to an outside domain.. ( at least on a RedHat/Fedora install). I think it was something like: ConnectOnlyTo=127.0.0.1 But I don't remember exactly..
