SquirrelMail 1.4.6
PHP 4.4.1
UWIMAPD (IMAP4rev1 2003.339p-cpanel)
Apache 1.3.34
CentOS 4.2 i686
Our webserver runs as nobody.

Many of my recipients don't receive my messages, sent from SquirrelMail,
because my messages end up in their spam folders or are filtered out by
their ISP or employer as spam. Why does this happen so often with
SquirrelMail-sent messages?

I know about the "bug" in one version of Spam Assassin, that mistakently
assigns messages sent by SquirrelMail with a higher spam score than is
warranted.

I also have some recipients who find that my messages end up flagged in
the subject line with "Bayesian Filter detected spam". With some such
recipients, an initial message makes it through cleanly, but if I reply to
their message then it will be flagged "Bayesian Filter detected spam".

With some other recipients it's unclear what spam filtering is in place,
but my messages always end up in their spam folder.

Yes, users should check their spam folders. But, some users aren't clued
in enough to remember to do that. From a non-informed user perspective, it
would be better if we SM administrators could do something to minimize the
chances that our mail is flagged or blocked as spam.

What causes so many SquirrelMail-sent messages to be flagged as spam? Is
there anything we can do about it?
