This is an issue with your IMAP server, and not SquirrelMail.  The issue
is that your IMAP server, presumable UW-IMAP defaults the mail directory
to your $HOME.  When selecting your folders page, it searches your $HOME
directory to find any possible mail folders.  If you have a lot of files
in your directory, or symlinks to other locations, this will cause both
Apache, and UW-IMAP to run wild with your CPU.

There are two ways of resolving this.  The first is a simple configuration
change in SquirrelMail.  Run config/conf.pl, select D and choose "uw". 
Under each users' home directory, create a mail folder.

The other option is to recompile uw-imap.  See
