In 2006 version UW developers started blocking subscriptions of noselect folders. In UW "noselect" folders are the ones that have subfolders. SquirrelMail bug #1566128 https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1566128&group_id=311&atid=100311 You can a) manually add noselect folder subscriptions to .mailboxlist b) change your IMAP server. Older UW versions don't block it.
