well, I did reinstall it from a pretty generic configure to:
--enable-softtimeout=7200 --enable-hardtimeout=14400 \
--enable-autopurge=1 --enable-maxpurge=5
On those last two options, I had thought it would make the default user
preference to autopurge the trash after one day, with the option to change
it up to 5 days. Instead, it shows the default config of 5 days, which
I then changed to 1, but there are still messages in the trash more than a
day old.
Because I customized the html a bit, I did copy the old html template
files from the old config (same 1.2.0 version, though). I have no idea if
any of this is relevent to my original question, but I figure I should
give you all the variables...
