Invalid Used ID or Password

After upgrading my apache server from 1.3.14 to 1.3.20, my sqwebmail (and
qmailadmin) is now failing to authenticate my users.  The error message is
"Invalid Used ID or Password".  Has anybody encountered this before?  Can
you provide me with information as to how you were able to solve this?
