g++ is the traditional nickname of GNU C++, a freely redistributable C++ compiler produced by the Free Software Foundation plus dozens of skilled volunteers. I say "traditional nickname" because the GNU compiler suite, gcc, bundles together compilers for C, Objective-C, and C++ in one package.(From GCC FAQ)
