I had the same problem when a virtual database (mysql) user
selected the same userid as an existing system (linux) account:
the system would not recognize the password stored in the database,
even though it allowed creation of the virtual user in the database.

Hope it helps...

Subject: [sqwebmail] auth problem

I am running sqwebmail 4.0.2 with vpopmail. I have one user who cannot
login to sqwebmail. This used to happen with the old version of
sqwebmail and if I restarted the authdaemon it would work again. Now
with the new version everyone authenticates well, except this one user.
I tried changing the password, deleting and recreating the account,
changing the password several times and restarting sqwebmaild. The
account authenticates fine with pop3 and all other users in all domains
seem to authenticate fine both ways. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Thanks,
