Has anybody ever run into the following problem:
On an IRIX 6.5 machine we run sshd. This is an interactive machine that can
have over a couple hundres users on it at the same time. We noticed when
over 150 or so users were using ssh to connect to it nothing else could
open a handle on the syslog file. We talked to the onsite SGI rep and
he found out that there is a hard limit on the number of open file handles
to syslog (and maybe all files?). The limit is 152 in the normal kernel.
Rather than trying to tweak it I ended up patching ssh-1.2.26 so that it
will open and close the syslog whenever it has to log something. If
anybody is interested you can find the patch at:

along with a few other patches we had to add.
