I am in the process of trying to get SSH running on two Mandrake 6.1
systems. I have openssh-2.1.1p1 and openssl-0.9.5a, compiled from the
source. Openssl I compiled with no options. Open SSH I compiled as
follows:
./configure --with-libwrap --without-rsh --disable-suid-ssh \
--disable-scp-stats --with-ipv4-default
and again with
./configure
When I try to run ssh, I get:
root@charlesc # ./ssh -v -l root tester
SSH Version OpenSSH_2.1.1, protocol versions 1.5/2.0.
Compiled with SSL (0x0090581f).

The error messages in /var/log/messages indicate that PAM thinks the
account has expired. As I am loged in as root on tester, yhis is clearly
false. I did copy the sshd.pam in from contrib/redhat to /etc/pam.d. I
also tried the genetic pam module.
There are what appear to my inexpert eyes appropriate entries in
/root/.ssh/authorized_keys and known_hosts.
Questions:
1) Why am I getting RSA authentication rejected?
2) Why is the password being rejected?
3) Has anyone got a plain simple step by bloody step installation and use
process for this stuff?
