type 

rpm --erase --nodeps `rpm -qa | grep ssh`

to erase all rpm's with 'ssh' in the name. you might want to run it once
without the --nodeps to see what you're blowing away.

someone might have created that file on the university box. i may be
wrong, but i dont believe that ssh creates an init file for you.

hmmmm... client is version 1, client is version 2, or am i misreading
that?
