sftp

I am having a problem connecting to a specified host with sftp.  I
usually get an error message like the server unexpectedly quit or the
connection has been lost. occasionally it tells me that an error of type
127 has occured.

have you seen anything like this?

is there anything special that I have to do to setup sftp?
