Anne,

Sun's first two versions of NFS were indeed UDP based, but V3, which 
is about 4 years old now, is TCP-based.   They did it primarily 
because users were trying to mount across leaky internets rather than 
just a single-segment LAN.  I don't know how many other vendors have 
mimed Sun.
