is password reset possible with ssh 2.x ??

Greetings,

I have used ssh1 for some time now, and just recently moved to ssh 2.3.
However, I have been unable to get it to prompt for a new password when the
old password expires.  This is pretty bad behaviour, as it effectively locks
you out of the box, if ssh is the only means of accessing a box (as it
should be).    

Does any version of ssh 2.x support password expiration?  Am I missing
something in the config?
