Host Based Auth

Anyone have any hints on getting "Host Based Authentication" to work?  I've
tried the FAQ already:

I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone that has been able to get this to
work.. they all say it's a bug.  In any case, I haven't seen any notes
pointing to that. 

Can anyone shed some light?
