I have a similar problem with my AIX box. ssh works just fine, but whenever
I try to run sftp, i get an error box stating
'File transfer server could not be started or it exited unexpectedly. Exit
value 127 was returned.'
Am I missing something? It sounds like I have to have another daemon
process running for sftp, but if so, what would that be?

I had the same problem on my AIX box. I solved it by creating a symbolic
link in /usr/bin. Hope this works for you as well.
