Remove the built executables and then edit the Makefiles to remove the -s to the
install command, or make sure gnu strip is first in your path. The Solaris 8
strip (in /usr/ccs/bin) is broken. I first ran into this building ipfilt for
Sol8. For the life of me I couldn't figure it out, until I finally rebuilt with
-g to debug. Of course, I also didn't strip the installed executables. It
worked fine. I was finally able to track it down to the use of
/usr/ccs/bin/strip. Using truss I was able to see that -s to the installs just
found the first strip in the path. When gcc strip was found, all was fine.
When I had first upgraded to OpenSSH 2.2.0 I had the same problem and not
stripping the executables solved things.
I hope this works for you as well.
