hi. we are running ssh 2.3.0 from ssh.com on a solaris network with
mostly 100mbit data connections. i am finding that, even using
blowfish or twofish (which seem to be the fastest of the included
algorithms) and enabling compression, transfer speeds are much slower
than those obtained when transfering the same data via ftp or rcp.
specifically, i can't get faster transfer speeds than about 300 kb/s
for scp2, and 350 kb/s in scp1 compatibility mode (using ssh 1.2.27).
however, a user claims to be able to get 800 kb/s, which is pretty
close to the expected ftp transfer speed over a 10mbit line, running
scp between linux boxes.
so i'm curious what can be tweaked in terms of compilation and/or
configuration options to improve data transfer speeds. i'd also like
to know what order of magnitude of transfer speed people on this list
have generally been able to attain through ssh connections. if people
want to respond to me directly, i'll summarize to the list if there's
sufficient interest.
