In private e-mails I have responded two times on this subject. Because
it isn't going away I'll show you the results of a simple test here.
My testresults on a 10 Mbps network via a hub, both systems using
OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 :
fred@servans:~ > la z
-rw-r--r-- 1 fred fred 7927960 Jan 21 13:17 z
fred@servans:~ > scp z fred@volens:/`fred/troep
fred@volens's password:
Transfering z -> volens:/fred/troep (7743k)
7927960 bytes transferred in 17.53 seconds [441.48 kb/sec].
One of the previous posters asked me about the load on my CPU's.
On the sending system (AMD 500 MHz) it varies from 25-50 %.
At the receiving side (AMD 200 MHZ) it's 20-50 %.
I noticed an increase of the CPU load during the transfer, from 1/3 of
the file it reaches 50 %.
Regards,
Fred
