Hi,
in your mail from 3 Oct 2000 you write:

Why would an entry in hosts.allow influence ssh?
Is ssh also an inet service? If so, which entry
do I have to make in hosts.allow in order to
permit ssh logins?

As far as I could see, the ssh man pages don't
mention any connection between hosts.allow and
ssh.

Thanks in advance for your help.
