Actually, openssh-2.3.0p1-1 installs fine on a RedHat 6.2 box. The version
you download from RedHat, however, is apparently for 7.0 only
(openssh-2.3.0p1-4).

In any case, I recommend updating the rpm system on the RedHat 6.2 box to
the latest version for 6.2, which is rpm-3.0.5-9.6x (assuming he's running
RedHat 6.2).

Of course, Trevor's suggestion is also quite workable. You can compile the
source rpms, or even install from the tarball. I installed 2.3.0 on a few
RedHat 6.2 machines from the tarball and it also worked fine. I guess the
only drawback is that it won't register itself with the rpm system.

In the midst of this, I must admit that I've never heard of LinuxPPC. So
the things I suggested assume LinuxPPC is similar to RedHat.
