openssl is NOT a program. It *is* a library. In fact, you
can use openssl to compile:

1. Your Apache web server to support SSL
2. Kerberos authentication
3. ssh (of course!)
4. BIND 9 (name server from Berkeley)

By default, openssl is installed on /usr/local/ssl
