What command are you typing, precisely? "ssh aixterm3.urz"?

ssh doesn't always seem to handle incomplete hostnames in the most
graceful manner. Try editing your ~/.ssh/config file, and put in a
section which explicitly maps the incomplete name to the fully qualified
domain name, or to one of the IP addresses. E.g.:
Host aixterm3.urz
HostName aixterm3.urz.uni-heidelberg.de
