True, but item 2.3 in the FAQ does refer to interoperability problems 
between OpenSSH and SSH; I thought perhaps mine was an interoperability 
problem.

Only the server - sshd from OpenBSD 2.8. It is apparently version 
2.5.2, though I couldn't find a direct way to check this.

The SecureFX version is 1.7; it was released in April, 2000.

Password authentication is the only method I use. The cipher is set to 
3DES, and the MAC is set to use SHA1.

I appreciate your help - I've also posted some of the log entries 
relevant to the problem in another thread titled "Authentication 
Timeout in OpenSSH". 

I considered updating to OpenSSH 2.9 - I hate for anyone to spend time 
solving problems that have already been fixed, but this client works 
fine with OpenSSH 2.3.0.

Ah, yes... I see the FAQ has been changed since my original posting.
