System RedHat 7.0 ( with most RH updates ) Open ssh ( RPM ) V2.5.2p2-1 PuTTY V 0.51 on Win98SE Hi I'n new to ssh so apologies if this is a FAQ. I've read ATFM Ican find. With PuTTY using protocol 1 with password authentication disabled I get asked for a passphrase for the RSA key. But with protocol 2 I just get asked for the password ( woks if enabled ) and not the DSA passphrase. With logging turned to VERBOSE I see: "sshd [pid] could not reverse map address [ipnumber]" in the logs, but I have set ReverseMappingCheck =no Is this the cause or have I missed something else ? I also have StrictModes = no incase I screwed up on permissions. Regards Paul
