A dead leg lubricator is usually teed off the steam line and works just like 
you said.  The lubricators that Coles Models sells are such.  And Kevin, if 
you are interested, I have drawings for the ceramic burner that I built for 
Jackie's Creekside.  This burner fits exactly into the position of the meth 
burner with no alterations.  At DH it was easily pulling four boxcars and a 
caboose for a good 15 minute run.  Before, it would hardly pull itself.
