Hello Dick S,

As you requested, here are the details of the 6x9 ft. portable layout on
the outside deck adjacent to the eating area of my flat. Since this is
highly visible through sliding glass doors, the constructiion is more
like furniture than the normal knocked-up train table. Seven of the
modules are 2x3 ft. with the eighth 1x3 ft. towards the doors. This
allows for a 3x3 ft cockpit in the middle with two 24 in. stools for the
operators as there is no room to walk around the edge. Modules are of
miter box precision cut hard straight grained 1x3 in. fir screwed and
waterproof glued while held square with corner clamps. Screws are
recessed and puttied over then primer and two finished coats of gloss
white enamel were applied. one inch plastic pipe legs 30 in. long with
12 in. dowels inserted in the bottom with hose clamps for length
adjustment support and level the modules. No. 10 bolts with T nuts and
washers connect the modules together.
1/4 in. dark green plexiglass precision cut by the vendor is fastened
ton the modules wth 3/4 in. no. 4 brass flush screws. Track is 25 ft.
of code 125 NS soldered to 1x3x1/16 in. brass sleepers of 29 in. radius
roughened with emery cloth then primered and painted brown after masking
the rail. Future additions include five 27 in. radius switches and
wagon turntable, all scratch built. Cloth skirting will be used when
set up at exhibitiions.

Tomorrow the modules will be installed and the layout should be
operational within a week. I will send you piccies to scan and put on
the net since I have only Webtv and no computer and scanner, etc.

BTW, this has been a most enjoyable experience since joining the group
on 8 Sept. 1998 and your efforts as listmom are greatly appreciated.
