Keith,

The BAGRS project got a lot of people excited about building their first
locomotive. True, it was simple, required no machining, and was a "4 wheeler"
<grin>, but it was fun. We as a hobby need the next step up from that original
design. Unfortunately, I lack the knowledge and time to undertake such a thing.
It was amazing to see how many incarnations of the BAGRS that evolved and
undoubtedly another simple locomotive would gain such popularity as well.
I think that in today's fast paced rat-race of a life that we've created for
ourselves, we want quick, almost immediate results. If a project progresses
quickly it will keep the builder's attention and will see the project completed.
I for one am very guilty of this, particularly because after a 10 hour day of
making chips, I'm tired of making chips. Period.
There needs to be a few more designs floating around that require very little
inconvenience, or scrounging to the builder. To make it even more fun, give the
plans away free of charge to whoever wants them, just like the BAGRS Project
was. I personally think that the BAGRS was so much fun because it was virtually
a worldwide locomotive building party. Everyone compared, modified, bashed,
cursed the damned beasts, and had tons of fun building them.
   Any suggestions from anyone?

Later,
Trent
