Mike: Unfortunately, metric is very logical to work with so if you're buying new, starting from scratch it's not a bad way to go.
However, you can build up a decent suite of 32-40 tpi taps & dies in real(US) units that would suit your hobby needs. Off the top of my head, I don't know about price differential between the two standards. Jim
