Tony, A silver brazing get-together "perhaps on a weekend soon" is too soon with the holidays coming and all. I'd need to get a boiler project to the point where it's ready for brazing, and I don't see being able to do that until after the New Year.
Your idea for a silver brazing seminar is a great idea for the Summer Steamup. Although it couldn't be a live demonstration, it could include discussions of materials, suitable torches, examples of setups, and examples of finished brazing work. Hi Mike, I agree about a separate tuition meet for the Bay Area locals, perhaps on a weekend soon and not wait till the steamup. (Count me in). Although a seminar at the steamup also would have a lot of interest there too. Incidentally there is a very good article in the August 2002 issue of Live Steam Magazine which describes the silver soldering process, and is very descriptive with photo,s and illustrations on building a boiler for a Shay. Regardless of the model, and size, the process's and procedures are very well described, one of the best I have seen, and worth the cost of the magazine. Regards, Tony D.
