I like the photo of a rod engine with a very long horizontal smoke stack that emptied exhaust over the tender. Obviously this was one method of trying to help engine crew breath less exhaust in tunnels. Remarks indicate firing the beast required a bit more effort because of the increased exhaust pressure due to the ninety degree elbow and long horizontal chimney.
