Keith, I have a copy of "The Locomotive Up To Date" and it is indeed full of interesting information. I see it often at online used booksellers and occasionally on eBay. In that vein, "Modern Locomotive Construction" is really excellent, too, and it's been reprinted in the last several years by Lindsey Publications.
