If you want to check PAM authentication then you can try to compile https://pagure.io/SSSD/sssd/blob/sssd-1-13/f/src/sss_client/pam_test_client.c which is similar version as in sssctl https://pagure.io/SSSD/sssd/blob/master/f/src/tools/sssctl/sssctl_user_checks.c#_261 But it will be simpler to compile it without sssd dependencies.
