I made that change, vermaden. The documentation is in the bsdinstall(8) man page. The short version is:
Download the official iso. Untar it. Put your custom script in /etc/installerconfig. Then recreate the iso. If the script sets a variable named DISTRIBUTIONS, then the iso will automatically do a distset install. If the script does not set such a variable, then the iso will automatically do a pkgbase install.
