1. D945GCLF-2 (Atom 330): No ethernet link unless forced to
10baseT-HD, this is r8169.
2. Thinkpad X220: No ethernet link, this is e1000e. FWIW, reverting the
commit that affected e1000e doesn't change things.
3. Thinkpad X220: If an external display is connected via VGA during
boot, there's nothing on either internal or external display after
graphical login.
These things require more checking on my side, especially the third
one. So again, just in case somebody has an idea what to try next, let
me know.
