Re: [staf-users] Can STAX goes
through BSO?
Joe,
The default STAF.cfg file will have the following network interfaces
configured:
# Enable TCP/IP connections
interface ssl library STAFTCP option Secure=Yes option Port=6550
interface tcp library STAFTCP option Secure=No option Port=6500
So, port 6550 is used for secure/encrypted TCP/IP communication, and port
6500 is used for unencrypted TCP/IP communication. In most cases you would
want to have both ports configured and allowed via the BSO, in case any
systems in your environment are running older versions of STAF (that don't
support secure communication). Note also that there are a couple platforms
where STAF does not currently support secure communication (Windows IA64 or
z/OS)
Thanks,
David

Re: [staf-users] Can STAX goes
through BSO?
Some real-world confirmation: yes, this works.
Just as I received this message I got notification that our network-admin
folks had opened the connection through our BSO, so I went and tried it and
I confirmed that my STAX machine (inside the BSO) can drive processes on my
test machine (outside the BSO) successfully.
David, just for my information can you please clarify what are the two
separate ports used for? Is 6500 in-bound and 6550 out-bound or something
like that? I believe in my case our network admins opened all ports, but
I'm just interested in knowing, if they had opened it more granularly would
I have needed to request both 6500 and 6550, or if I'm only going in one
direction (from my STAX server to the test client machine) would I have
only needed one or the other? Or would I still need both?

You will need to make sure that the BSO allows communication through the
TCP/IP ports that STAF uses (default ports are 6500 and 6550).

David

[staf-users] Can STAX goes through
BSO?
Hi,
Suppose there are two machine all have STAF, STAX installed. But there is
BSO between them. In that cases, Can machine A operate machine B by STAF
command?
