The STAFEnv.sh script is also useful when using the STAFInst installer (as it does not update any system/user environment variables) or if you used the InstallAnywhere installer and specified to not have the installer update the system/user environment variables.
Using the STAFEnv.sh script in your .bashrc files should be fine.

Hi,
I'm confused about the info in section 3.7 of the installation guide. It
seems to indicate that STAFEnv.sh really isn't needed _except_ when there
are 2 staf versions on the same machine.
But right now, I use STAFEnv.sh in my .bashrc files to inherit the staf
environment. Bad idea?
Here's how I use it:
if [ -f /opt/staf/STAFEnv.sh ]; then
. /opt/staf/STAFEnv.sh
fi
My OS is CentOS.
