Paul, Are you sure that environment variable STAFCONVDIR is set correctly on the system? It must be set to E:\STAF\codepage
Starting STAF as a Windows service on a system with Windows and STAF
installed on E: works correctly for me, unless I delete the STAFCONVDIR
environment variable (in that scenario I get the same error you are
getting).
Thanks,
David

Subject: [staf-users] As a service, stafproc.exe looking in C:\STAF
instead of real installation directory
Hello,
I encountered a machine, while installing STAF, that has Windows 2000 on
E: ... so I installed STAF to E: as well. It installed fine, and if I
simply run stafproc.exe, it starts fine.
However, when going through the staf-as-a-windows-service instructions, a
message pops up saying that STAF cannot open C:\STAF\codepage\alias.txt.
I am looking for a way to tell STAF where STAF is installed (heh), but am
not having any luck at the moment. Perhaps it is an environment issue where
something is not set by the service-runner, which is causing STAF to look
in a default directory? Hmm.
Thanks!
Paul
