I think the "deferred offloading" would be ideal, but I agree that it's
arguably too error-prone for a lot of existing codebases.

I suppose it could be defined as a new error condition for any stanza,
and "immediate offload" could be done by sending a predetermined stanza
immediately after accepting the multiplex.  However, I worry that might
be too complex to get right, plus there's the potential compatibility
issues with existing servers.
