Hey list,

(Editor hat on)

I already announced this on the XSF members mailing list as well as various
MUCs, and thought forwarding it to the list where the folks are who are
probably most affected by this makes sense ;)

For various reasons I started working on a new stylesheet (both XSLT and CSS)
for the XEP HTML generation. I invite you to take a peek here:

https://sotecware.net/files/noindex/xeptest/xep-0001.html
https://sotecware.net/files/noindex/xeptest/xep-0045.html
https://sotecware.net/files/noindex/xeptest/xep-0369.html

(All current XEPs are available at that server, just modify the URL. Note that
these are not official renderings and they might differ slightly (or not so
slightly) in content from the offical documents.)

A summary of changes:

- Re-vamped the CSS completely, based on the YAML framework (<http://yaml.de>,
not to be confused with yaml.org)
- On wide screens, the table of contents is now sticky on the left margin,
allowing you to access it while being scrolled anywhere
- Examples, tables and headings can more easily be linked to, by providing
link things next to them (requires hover for headings)
- Minor adaptations for narrow screens, among others, font size and margin
changes
- Other more or less minor design changes, specifically in the appendix and
the header.
- Under the hood, legacy HTML was replaced with the more modern equivalents

All of this merely requires a modern-ish browser; no JavaScript involved.
Renders nicely even without CSS (well, as nicely as non-CSS renders of
webpages go).

Things I have already in the queue:

- Further fixes on margin sizes on mobile screens
- A document lifecycle bar which shows the existing steps in the document’s
track and where the document stands.

I welcome your feedback either to this list, to me privately (via email or
XMPP, email == jid) or xmpp:x...@muc.xmpp.org?join.

kind regards,
Jonas
