Speaking of Norton Utilities:

Several years ago I was having some funky problems with my SM3000/240, so
I figured I'd run Norton Utilities Disk Doctor. I had system 8.1
installed and was using Norton 4.0.

Norton ran, generated it's usual list of problems and fixed them.

Then, I tried to restart, without luck.

After booting off my original Starmax disk I discovered that Norton had
completely rearranged my files and directory structure, randomly placing
all files (including system files) in a series of numbered folders. There
was, as far as I could determine, no particular order to this.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

I had recently installed sys 8.1 without updating the disk drivers -- a
friend suggested this might have been the cause.
