I haven't come across Pacific Image in the UK. Jessops (a photographic shop chain) have some own brand film scanners which might be ok, but I haven't seen any detailed specs for them yet.
I do like the idea of the automated dust and scratch removal with the ICE system, since this seems to work well by all accounts and would mean less time spent afterwards retouching scans. The scanners I looked at though recommend variously 100MB+ or 128MB+ free memory to use these features. With 9.1 on my Starmax I might have to turn vitual memory on for that. It might make for rather a slow scanning experience. I remember buying my Starmax and thinking that the 160MB RAM limit was way more than I was ever likely to need. Then again, I also remember when I thought that 16KB was quite a lot.
