Why don't you jut cut the connectors off the 2 wires, strip the ends and twist them together, then tape or solder. Maybe not aesthetically great but it's not going to be visible anyway. There are also "butt splice" things you could get at someplace like radio shack that would be more aesthetically correct and maybe more secure than tape.
